The Summer House Inn has been where I've always stayed while at Chautauqua. Years ago we wanted just a one night stay so we could see the Smokey Robinson concert and not have to drive all the way home afterward. I phoned Jen Webler, the proprietor. She was relaxed, informative and extremely helpful. She made sure that what we wanted was what we got. As the years went by, I was able to extend my visit to attend for a full week. Jen was my resource for planning a fun and productive stay at Chautauqua. Here is why I continue to stay at the Summer House Inn: 1) it is consistently comfortable and economical. Each room I've stayed in has had a nice porch, comfy bed and serviceable furniture. 2) It has a core group of people who are there year after year, and new people also. It is fun to get to spend time with them. 3) It has a wonderful, old fashioned kitchen. Guests are encouraged to bring and prepare their own food. Because I am vegan, this is a huge bonus. There are plenty of refrigerators, tables, microwaves, utensils and dishes. 4) It is centrally located on the campus. It's a very quick walk to the auditorium, the Hall of Philosophy, and the beach, etc. It's a longer (but perfectly enjoyable) walk to the gym and pool as well. 5) Finally, I really appreciate the way Jen runs the house. She is available, but not intrusive. She is conscientious, but "laid back". Mainly, she is friendly and approachable, and she runs her business very well. Many thanks Jen! See you in 2025!
