See the previous review. This house is not acceptable, especially by Chautauqua standards. One step away from a flophouse. The “two” bathrooms downstairs are really a single room joined by a bathtub which had no showe curtains in either “room”—hard to picture but absolutely no privacy. Doors did not close or lock and there were no curtains in the bathrooms. Or in any other room for that matter. There was one frying pan and two small pots. The owner knew there would be at least ten of us. No art on the walls anywhere. No headboards or nightstands in the bedroom and only two closets, without doors, in the entire house. One of the twin beds was sitting directly on the floor. I could go on. The caretaker did his best, putting in a stair rail on a very hazardous stairway to the attic.

The house has been renovated and updated in 2023. We have had since 25 happy families over the last three 9 week Chautauqua seasons. ( References available upon request ). Christine from the Chautauqua Institution accommodations office took brand new pictures in June 2025, as you can see here; the house is very tastefully furnished. We also have brand new property managers - Philip, Lorie and Don who are extremely attentive to all the guests needs. We have improved immensely since Covid which was a difficult time for all of us. We welcome all families with open arms.

Not as it appears/great location.
When we arrived with our party of 10, we found a number of things missing from this residence that you might expect. We had no hot pads for the kitchen, no glassware. We had only 8 coffee cups for our group once we found some upstairs in the 2nd apartment. There were no curtains in one upstairs bathroom. There was one mirror in one bathroom and no mirror in the 2nd upstairs bathroom with an outlet for shaving or fixing your hair. They were cleaning our house until about 4 pm. Once we moved in, we found the stairs to the 2nd and the 3rd floor attic were narrow and steep. The person who arranged this rental had been assured by the owners that the stairs were fine for older people which was clearly not true. Once we approached the owners they did try to rectify some of our issues including having a loose front step temporarily fixed, brought us a couch for the downstairs living area, a grill and some tools for grilling. They did bring us some mirrors for bathrooms that lacked them and glassware. Basically, the house had lots of tables and needed more seats for this many guests when the whole house was rented by one group. Only the 2 upstairs rooms have closets for hanging clothes. The 2 upper floors lacked closets so we used one shelving unit to stack some clothing. We basically lived out of our suitcases. Renters should be aware that the attic has 2 bedrooms and no bathroom. Those sleeping there have to use the lower floor bathrooms. It appeared to me that there needed to be more thought given to the small things people need to stay in a space (e.g., shower curtain for 1st floor BR, hooks for towels, toilet paper holders, towel racks, etc. That being said, the owners did respond to some of our suggestions so if you are renting from them, I would urge you to tell them what you need.
