Lovely hosts, great location
The Ashland is right on Bestor Plaza, very close to event venues, stores, and restaurants. Hosts, Julie, Dave and Lindsay, could not have been more warm and attentive. They are lovely people. I stayed in room 19 on the fourth floor and had a lovely view of the plaza and even a partial view of Lake Chautauqua. This was my fourth visit to Chautauqua institution and the accommodations at the Ashland are similar to others I have experienced. If this is your first visit, do not expect luxury accommodations. Rather, expect a stimulating intellectual and spiritual experience in the heart of western New York’s natural beauty. Chautauqua institution is about interacting with others, something that the Ashland and its configuration, proximity and gracious hosts amplifies. Enjoy!

We have stayed at the Ashland for each of our 6 visits to Chautauqua, it is as much a part of our Chautauqua experience as the the Amp, Julie and Dave are magnificent hosts. The rooms are small and dated but they are very clean and contain everything we need to enjoy our stay. The shared kitchen lets us cook our own meals but just as importantly it allows us another chance to meet and converse with other guests. The porch and balconies are a great place to enjoy time with new friends

The pluses are central location, fabulous porch, nice community kitchen, friendly owner, clean rooms and inexpensive price. If you are looking for modern, it is not your place. If you are looking for a traditional Chautauqua experience, you'll be happy here.
