Unit detail – accessed via elevator from the main lobby of the St. Elmo, on the fourth and fifth floor about half way down the hall is apartment 412. It presents a Scandinavian ambiance and overlooks the spa’s sunken courtyard and the Logan Dormitory, home of the Chautauqua Daily. Having an open floor plan, you enter the apartment with the kitchen on the left. The kitchen is well equipped with cookware, serving pieces, tableware, utensils and linens. Across from the kitchen, on the right, is the bathroom with shower stall and other standard fixtures. The dining room has a table which seats four. The living room, spanning the width of the apartment, has a sleeper sofa, a couple of lounge chairs, a coffee table, two end tables, a TV with DVD player, and a dresser and closet for storage of clothes. A ceiling fan serves the living/dining room. Beyond, through the sliding glass door, is a balcony with wicker couch and two lounge chairs.  Upstairs is a spacious loft bedroom with king bed, two bedside tables, a dresser, closet, and TV. The full bathroom has tub/shower and a separate vanity area. There is a ceiling fan over the bed. Bed and bath linens are furnished with the apartment. The apartment is well appointed with art and tchotchkes providing a home-like atmosphere.

A concierge is located off the main lobby of the building on the first floor and can help you with orientation and programming questions related to the Institution’s offerings. They also provide a mini onsite library and an extensive movie collection. The apartment is served throughout by HVAC and Wi-Fi systems. Rents are Saturday to Saturday. A little history -- The original St. Elmo Hotel was an amalgam of buildings dating back to 1890. In 1988 the St. Elmo Condominiums at 1 Pratt were built on the site of the former hotel. Located right on Bestor Plaza, you are in the very heart of Chautauqua. It is winterized for year-round occupancy, and has 61 residential units above several commercial units (spa, restaurant, deli, gift shop and women’s clothing store) on the lower level. During the summer season it is alive with people. Off-season it caters to those who like to be close to nature, read, ski, play bridge, do puzzles, or just enjoy a quiet Chautauqua day. The movie “St. Elmo’s Fire” was inspired by a bellhop’s experiences working at the old hotel.

Full season rental available: $20,000 for the season.

A mobility scooter is available to the apartment tenants, but is rented separately. If in doubt as to your own health or the impact of the Coronavirus, it is recommended that you purchase travel insurance. No smoking or pets are permitted.
